AMBUSH® x Bright Moments: How we powered one of the most anticipated web3 phygital fashion drops of the year through the craziest spike in Ethereum gas fees this cycle
Bright Moments Tokyo has finally wrapped up, and in its tracks, the broader web3 community has discovered the gem that is the Japanese Web3 Community. And amongst it all was one of the most highly anticipated drops of the year: the AMBUSH® and Bright Moments collaboration.3

We were honored to support and power the phygital component of this drop.

One thing was clear. For a collaboration of this scale, the expectations were high. And we had to deliver a truly seamless experience for our customers.
The Promise
At Legitimate, our highest priority is customer experience. We believe that the future of Web3 and NFTs is that customers don’t have to even think about web3 and NFTs at all. The Problem
Enter $PEPE. A rocketship of a memecoin. Without going into the details, $PEPE skyrocketed in monetary value and word-of-mouth popularity over the last week. With new highs and lows, it completely took over the dialogue and conversations around web3. But that’s not the only thing it dominated. It also completely dominated the bandwidth and throughput of the Ethereum network itself. Any chance of submitting transactions onto the Ethereum blockchain at reasonable gas prices was gone out the window.
As we headed into the Bright Moments launch, we knew one thing was for certain. Gas prices were going to fluctuate wildly, and the chances of transactions failing were really really high. On opening day of Bright Moments Tokyo, Ethereum gas prices were hovering at an average of 175 gwei. Compared to a usual average of well under 50gwei, this was 3-4x what is usually considered acceptable.
How’d We Do?
In the midst of one of the craziest meme coin runs of the year, Legitimate delivered on our promise of making NFTs accessible to all. All of our “gasless” transactions were submitted on behalf of our customers without a single hiccup.

Every single customer that purchased an AMBUSH x Bright Moments T-Shirt was able to pickup their T-shirt at AMBUSH WORKSHOP 2 inside Shibuya Parco seamlessly. They were able to scan the LGT Tag (NFC) integrated in the T-Shirt to unlock a unique NFT that represented the authenticity and ownership of the product itself. There was no need to worry about submitting transactions or gas fees.
